Background and Experience
Peter manages our Ogden location. He is a highly experienced family law attorney known for his analytical approach, command of the law, and ability to develop thoughtful strategies in complex cases. Raised in Layton, Peter earned his Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University before graduating with Honors from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where he consistently ranked at the top of his class. While at BYU, he also helped establish Camp Kesem, a summer program supporting children whose parents have experienced cancer.
Since joining the firm in 2011, Peter has represented clients throughout the Wasatch Front in a broad range of family law matters, with particular experience in complex and high-asset divorce. These cases often require more than simply knowing family law—they require understanding complicated facts, identifying the issues that matter, anticipating what comes next, and building a strategy around the client’s long-term objectives.
Peter is particularly well suited for clients who want to understand their case and participate meaningfully in strategic decisions. Known for his sharp legal analysis and remarkable ability to recall case law, he approaches matters with preparation, organization, and attention to detail. He also brings extensive courtroom experience when litigation becomes necessary.
Peter has served as President of the Weber County Bar and has been a key member of Burton Family Attorneys for more than a decade, where he is now a shareholder.
Outside the office, Peter is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, fishing, reading, trivia, and BYU sports. Most importantly, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their seven children—four sons and three daughters.
