Background and Experience
Peter is widely recognized as one of Utah’s leading family law attorneys. Raised in Layton, he earned his Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University before completing his Juris Doctor with Honors at Quinnipiac University School of Law in Connecticut, where he consistently ranked at the top of his class. During his time at BYU, he helped establish Camp Kesem, a summer program supporting children whose parents have experienced cancer—an early reflection of his longstanding commitment to helping families in difficult circumstances.
Since joining the firm in 2011, Peter has assisted clients across the Wasatch Front, handling a full spectrum of family law matters, including complex and high-asset divorces. Known for his sharp legal analysis and remarkable ability to recall case law instantly, he brings exceptional preparation and depth of knowledge to every case. Peter also has extensive trial experience and is highly regarded within the legal community. He has served as President of the Weber County Bar and has been a key member of Burton Family Attorneys for more than a decade, where he is now a shareholder.
Outside the office, Peter is an avid outdoorsman who loves hiking and fishing. He enjoys reading, excels at trivia, and is a lifelong BYU sports fan. Above all, he values time with his wife and their seven children—four sons and three daughters—who keep life busy and full of adventure.
